Role description

Rio Grande Pacific Technology Inc. (RioTech) is seeking a motivated Signal Maintenance Apprentice to join our growing maintenance team. As an apprentice, you will be trained to maintain, inspect, and repair signaling systems, ensuring the safety and reliability of our transportation network. This apprenticeship provides hands-on experience, combining practical training with theoretical education, to develop your skills in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of signal equipment.

You will work closely with experienced Signal Maintainers and Technicians, gaining invaluable insights into the day-to-day operations of signal maintenance and working with cutting-edge technology to support transportation systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance, and repair of railway crossing systems, including crossing signals, switch machines and track circuits.
• Perform routine inspections and testing of signaling equipment to ensure it meets operational standards.
• Identify faults or malfunctions in signaling equipment, perform diagnostic checks, and assist in troubleshooting issues.
• Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Support senior maintainers in carrying out preventive maintenance activities to reduce downtime and ensure system reliability.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
• Participate in ongoing training sessions and educational programs to expand your knowledge of signaling systems.

Requirements

• Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (preferably with a background in mathematics, engineering, or technology).
• Technical Interest: A keen interest in electrical, mechanical, or electronic systems, and a desire to work in the transportation industry.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and good manual dexterity.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work in various outdoor environments, including potentially adverse weather conditions. Some roles may require climbing and working at heights.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively work with team members and report issues.
• Work Ethic: Punctual, reliable, and capable of working as part of a team or independently when required.
• Aptitude for Learning: Willingness to engage in training and development opportunities, with the ambition to advance in the field.

• Salary range – $23 – $26/HR DOE (Hourly position)

You will be required to complete an employment application, submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test and pass a background check. This position will include a standard ninety (90) day probationary period.
